SHOCKING DEVELOPMENTS.
So, that Simpsons move? It's good. I would not have suspected it, but upon reading some of the overwhelmingly (actually, most were just whelmingly) positive reviews from trusted sources, I dragged Mallory out to the theater and got my Simps on.
And the verdict: It was good. It was funny, and had the heartwarming bits, and there was an epic narrative, and a lot of character humor and a lot of wacky shit happening, but the characters weren't uselessly two-dimensional (except literally), and the wacky shit was tangential to the plot rarely enough that it was surprising and that which was on-plot was sensible and clever and yes, amusing. Oh, and the plot... it made sense, it had conflict, it had sub-plots that WEREN'T meandering and pointless and entirely unrelated to the A-story, and while it took fifteen minutes to GET to the plot, that's a lot less angrifying when it doesn't represent the halfway mark.
So yeah. Pretty good.
