Racism!

So, hey, still in Philly. Still a nice place. Still got mystery wi-fi. Still friends with racists.

Wait, that's a new one!

Ladies and gentlemen of the Internet... my readership which includes a number of the most intelligent people I know: cooperations are offering their services to Americans in both English and Spanish. Is this a bad thing?

I don't want to get into the grim details here, because... well, frankly, I don't dig talking such politics, one-sided audience or no. The point is, I've severely lost respect for a number of people. There are arguments one could make saying that catering to non-English-speakers... a number of valid arguments that I happen to disagree with but are acceptable all the same. "Immigrants should stop being lazy and learn the language because I don't want to be forced to adapt to their language" is NOT one of those arguments, and yet, that's all I've been getting. That and a few equally spurious variations on that theme.

You know, part of a person's national identity is tied up with the language they speak, and by allowing people to prosper without speaking English, we may wind up in an analogous situation to Canada, where a very vocal minority is demanding independence based on their bonds of language. THAT is an argument I can respectfully disagree with! "My grandparents had to learn English!" is not so much. Ugh, some of the people I know.

In other news, Nana made a ham, and it was delicious! Yaaaaay ham!

Final argument that basically blows away all other arguments?

There is no official national language of the United States mentioned in any of our government documents. If you show me in the Constitution where it says "Inhabitants must know English," I'll give you a cookie. So we could have street signs in Slovakian if there were enough Slovaks who wanted them.

It's far too late to try to declare a national language, so best start adapting now.

I enjoy ham.

Also, I'm fairly certain we won.
