It's Saint Patrick's Day.

How exciting.

I'm out. I got no real gumption for the day or the mushigus that associates with it. But then, I'm the sort of person who hates when people who aren't actually, physically from Ireland refer to themselves as Irish. Because that ain't accurate! It's a sickness around here, a school full of Americans, born and bred in America to parents who were born and bred in America, who will loudly and vocally inform you that, no, they are Irish and thus allowed to drink to excess regularly, or Italian and allowed to mispronounce the names of common cheeses.

Yeah, it's pronounced "moot-sah-rell", in ITALY. Around here, it's "mot-sah-rell-AH", and if you persist in lopping off a syllable, there's gonna be hell to pay.

I agree, although I tend to lapse into calling myself "Dominican" or "Polish" every once in a while. I try to stick with American, since that's what I really am, but it tends to annoy some people -- especially uncles on my mom's side, who really are Domincan and don't understand why I call myself American. "You aren't American! You're Dominican!"

*sigh*
