I remain here, baby!

Okay, as a matter of housekeeping, the standard posting guidlines re-apply. A hunnert words a day, or more, bar some sort of horrible accident or computer disaster or losing track of time because I've been partying too hard or I just don't feel like it. I know, I've got a will of iron.

So yes, I had an absolutely wonderful time in California. The crux of the wonderful, o'course, was getting to hang out with Ambs, which I basically never get to do, mainly because there are a lot of inconsiderate states between New York and California. (Frankly, it's about time we as Americans started dealing with this problem... for example, who the fuck cares about Wyoming? What's that, people from Wyoming care? Well if they MATTERED, they wouldn't be in Wyoming, would they? Thus, it can be safely removed, and the remaining states squeezed closer. Repeat about thirty times. Excellent.)

So, I'm not going to give you a point-by-point summary of the trip, if only because I don't want you to learn just how much of it was spent watching old episodes of NewsRadio, but I'll run through some of my impressions.

  • San Francisco is pretty much uniformly pretty from what I could see.
  • Trollies are way more fun than buses... the only mobile historical monuments, don't'cha know?
  • Rotating restaurants, while freaking expensive, do rotate, which is almost neat enough to make it worthwhile. Very nearly.
  • Mountains exist.
  • As do non-plastic palm trees. I was pretty sure all that business was just something one saw on TV.
  • Oatmeal Stout = Damn Fine Beer. Good call, Sterling.
  • Barnes and Noble is currently selling two TV series DVD collections for the price of one. You lot probably want to take advantage of this. This has been a payed advertisement.
  • Pan's Labarynth is creepy. Hella creepy. It doesn't have five non-grotesque minutes in it. Not saying that's a bad thing, just don't go into it expecting a Narnia-esque fantasy romp.
  • Given that Amber's Internet connection is crap, and my phone reception is crap, it's really nice being able to talk to her and know she's actually able to catch what I'm saying. Because she's... you know... there, in the room.
  • There is a nice woman who, if I go to Berkely for grad school, would evidently be delighted to feed and shelter me. This is a very large point in Berkely's favor.
  • Axis and Allies is, essentially, Risk as it would be if it were made by the most anal retentive man on the planet. So, fun, but complicated.

So yes, all in all, a wonderful time. I'm thinking about headed back out there... right about now. Bye New York! Bye forever!
